E.ON Energie Romania completed this week works for changing the lighting fixtures at the third school included this year in the program “Energy in childhood schools”, the company reports.

Thus, the company completed the replacement works of the lighting system in the “Dimitrie Gusti” Secondary School, from Fundu Moldovei, Suceava County. Started in 2012, the program aims to modernize the lighting system with a modern one, based on LED technology. By the beginning of this year, E.ON has invested over 3.5 million euros to improve study conditions and streamline energy consumption in schools. Since 2012, the program has so far covered 65 schools in 18 counties, with about 41,000 students and teachers as direct beneficiaries. A total of 32,500 new lighting fixtures and 80,000 LED tubes were installed.

“In Romania, almost half of the school buildings need refurbishment, according to a study conducted by Efficient Romania with data taken from the Integrated Information System of Education in Romania. Although it is not a complete analysis, it still emphasizes the huge need to rehabilitate schools in Romania, especially from the perspective of energy efficiency. With problems that are often related to the thermal insulation of buildings, heating and lighting, much of the energy consumed in schools is wasted, although utility costs are constantly rising. In this context, the Energy in Childhood Schools program, started in 2012, comes to respond to this need with investments in streamlining the lighting system in schools,” say E.ON officials.

Within the school, the lighting system was completely replaced, by installing new bodies, based on LED technology. These bring significant savings in electricity consumption for lighting, which also means lower electricity bills. Moreover, LED tube lighting also has a longer lifespan than conventional systems, which makes this investment sustainable over time, reducing their maintenance costs. LED tubes can have between 50,000 and 100,000 operating hours.

Beyond the efficiency of energy consumption with lighting, the approximately 300 students and teachers of the school will enjoy better study conditions, the light given by the new system being similar to the natural one in a ratio of 98%.
