New car registrations in Romania increased by 7% in May 2026, compared to the same period in 2025, while in the “100% electric” segment the advance was of 88%, reaching 797 units, according to preliminary data published on Tuesday by the Association of Automobile Manufacturers and Importers (APIA).
According to centralized information from the General Directorate of Driving Licenses and Registrations (DGPCI), in terms of electrified cars, in May this year, an increase of 32% was recorded, compared to May 2025, according to Agerpres.
In the top of new car registrations, the first three positions are occupied in order by: Dacia, with 2,132 units, Toyota – 1,139, Skoda – 910 and Volkswagen – 811 units. In the top of models, Dacia Duster leads with 979 registered cars, Toyota Corolla – 445, Dacia Logan – 436, Dacia Bigster – 396 and Skoda Octavia with 379 units.
APIA mentions that the total car market is down by 10% in the first five months of 2026, compared to the same period last year.
