The prosumers market in Romania is on an upward trend, but the energy transition also involves challenges related to balancing the system, said Dor Marian, founder and CEO of Wiren, a company specialized in renewable energy solutions and smart consumption management.
“We firmly believe that energy will belong to everyone, and the power of the little people is starting to kick in. The transition from old standards to the current dynamics of energy production and consumption is in full swing. The prosuming segment will reach maturity at a level of around 5,000 MW installed. Now we are not even half there yet, but we are on the right track. The market has room for further growth”, Marian said at the conference “Energy Transition Cluj-Napoca 2025”, organized by Energynomics together with the Romanian-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry – AHK Romania.
According to him, the process is not without its challenges, but “prosumers need to be part of the solution and participate in rebalancing the system.” The introduction of a dynamically priced market will also help to naturally adjust the ratio between production and consumption, and artificial intelligence will play an increasingly important role in efficient electricity management.
“It will hurt at first, but a free market will eventually lead to a natural equilibrium. Any forced adjustment sooner or later produces a natural correction. (…) “AI will become essential in production, storage and consumption decisions. Algorithms will optimize when and how you produce, whether you store or charge electric cars,” Marian added.
Wiren has already started to add storage systems to existing power generation plants because they are “an absolute necessity for any small, medium or large producer”.
