Delgaz Grid, the electricity and natural gas distributor of the E.ON Group in Romania, has completed two projects worth over 6 million euros (approximately 31 million lei excluding VAT) in the electricity distribution networks in Suceava county, which will contribute to the takeover of energy produced from renewable sources and to increasing the security of supply for approximately 31,500 consumers in the area.
One of the investments exceeds 5 million euros (25.48 million lei) and consisted of the modernization of the Vicov transformer station (110/20kV), by replacing high and medium voltage equipment and integrating them into SCADA (remote control and data acquisition). The project also modernized the 110 kV Vicov–Rădăuți power line over a length of 17 km and made new connections between the Vicov, Rădăuți and Egger stations.
The project was co-financed with approximately 2.37 million euros (11.96 million lei) from the European Regional Development Fund REACT-EU (through POIM 2014-2020, Priority Axis 6: Promoting clean energy and energy efficiency in order to support a low-carbon economy). Approximately 2.7 million euros (13.5 million lei) represents the contribution of Delgaz Grid to this project.
The investment allows the takeover of energy produced from renewable sources under safe operating conditions of the National Energy System, the reduction of its own technological consumption, the improvement of the performance indicators of the electricity distribution service, respectively of the technical parameters of the quality of the distributed energy and the continuity indicators in the electricity supply.
The quality of the distribution service will be improved for about 18,000 consumers in Vicovu de Sus, Vicovu de Jos, Rădăuți, Brodina, Putna, Straja, Gălănești, Voitinel, Bilca, Ulma, Izvoarele Sucevei, Moldova Sulița, Moldovița, Vatra Moldoviței, Frumosu and partially Frătăuții Noi. At the same time, by putting the new transformer station into operation, 20 energy producers from renewable sources (hydro and photovoltaic) benefit from safe and stable conditions for injecting energy into the network.
A second investment work in Suceava County, worth over 1 million euros (5.4 million lei excluding VAT), recently completed, consisted of the construction of a 6 km long loop network between two radial networks: the Rădăuți – Sucevița and Frasin – Prisaca Dornei medium voltage overhead power lines.
Over 13,500 consumers from the localities of Sucevița, Marginea, Horodnicul de Sus, Horodnicul de Jos, Moldovița, Vatra Moldoviței, Frumosu and an area in Rădăuți will benefit from better services following the completion of this investment.
The projects represent strategic investments to improve the security of energy supply, while also creating premises for new sustainable economic developments at regional level, with multiple benefits for communities. They also contribute to making the network more efficient and reducing technological losses, supporting national and European objectives in the field of energy transition.
Both works are part of the transition from traditional radial configurations to looped topologies, with a high degree of security in supply, on all voltage levels: high, medium and low.
The looped network, powered by multiple sources, considerably limits the area and duration of the impact of power outages in the event of network faults and ensures increased operating capacity and improved quality indicators for the electricity distribution service
In 2025, the company completed five looping works on medium-voltage networks worth 10 million lei, and by 2030 another 25 projects in the same category are planned, worth a total of over 30 million lei.
Delgaz Grid pays special attention to attracting European funds to support investment programs, especially since, as these are non-reimbursable financing, these costs are not reflected in customer invoices.
Currently, 15 such projects are underway, worth a total of 436 million euros, of which 325 million euros are European financing. The projects target SMART metering, modernization of transformer stations, construction of new stations, and modernization of networks at all voltage levels.
