20 million euros invested in advanced wastewater treatment systems

OMV Petrom, the largest energy producer in South-Eastern Europe, has completed a 20 million euro investment at the Petrobrazi refinery, to modernize its wastewater treatment systems.

“At Petrobrazi, we are constantly investing in modern technologies to reduce our environmental impact and increase operational efficiency. These new projects at the wastewater treatment facility reflect our determination to operate responsibly and invest in technologies that protect the environment and support the future of Romania’s energy sector,” said Radu Căprău, member of the OMV Petrom Management Board responsible for Refining and Marketing.

As part of this project, existing basins were covered and modern systems for capturing and treating waste gases were installed. These gases undergo three successive processes – chemical treatment, activated carbon filtration and thermal oxidation – to be effectively cleaned.

Over 2 billion euros invested at Petrobrazi

These works are part of a large-scale modernization program at the Petrobrazi refinery. OMV Petrom has invested over 2 billion euros since 2005 to modernize the facilities, improve energy efficiency and prepare for the transition to low-carbon fuels.

The company is currently carrying out a major new project, worth approximately 750 million euros, to build a sustainable fuels production unit (SAF/HVO), which will also include a green hydrogen component.
