Distribuție Energie Electrică Romania (DEER) inaugurated on March 25, 2026 the second investment project from the Modernization Fund, called “Modernization of the 20kV Sighet-Teceu LEA (overhead power lines, OHL), 20kV Sighet-Costui LEA and 20kV Sighet-Radio Vad LEA”, an objective of strategic importance for the modernization and development of the electricity distribution network in Maramureș County.
The investment, worth a total of 66.8 million lei, of which 51.48 million lei are non-reimbursable funds, is the second major project financed by the European Commission through the Modernisation Fund Financing Axis 3 – MODERNISATION AND CONSTRUCTION OF NEW SECTIONS OF ENERGY INFRASTRUCTURE – 3.2 Energy infrastructure – Support for the extension and modernisation of the electricity distribution network.
By implementing the project “Modernization of the 20kV Sighet-Teceu, 20kV Sighet-Costui and 20kV Sighet-Radio Vad OHL”, the following objectives are achieved: ensuring safety and continuity in the electricity supply of existing users and producers in the area, respectively on the route of the 20kV Sighet-Teceu Overhead Power Lines (OHL), 20kV Sighet-Costui and 20kV Sighet-Radio Vad OHL and increasing the distribution and connection capacity of future users and producers in the area, respectively on the route of the 20kV Sighet-Teceu Overhead Power Lines (OHL), 20kV Sighet-Costui and 20kV Sighet-Radio Vad OHL
Following the investment made, users will benefit from an electricity distribution service at high standards of safety, permanence and continuity, from 10 Territorial Administrative Units (Sarasău Communes, Câmpulung la Tisa, Săpânța, Bocicoiu Mare, Rona de Jos, Rona de Sus, Bârsana, Strâmtura, Poienile Izei, Botiza, Rozavlea), plus part of the city of Sighetu Marmației.

Through this investment, DEER actively contributes to increasing the quality of the distribution service for the over 18,000 users, as well as to the socio-economic development of the region. Today we are not only marking the completion of an investment, but we are reaffirming, with rigor and institutional responsibility, the strategic direction that DEER consistently follows: consolidating a modern, safe energy infrastructure oriented towards the real needs of the communities.

The investment allows for a more efficient takeover of renewable energy produced in both existing and new power plants. The investment will also improve the energy efficiency of the facilities by streamlining their own technological consumption and reducing the number and duration of power supply interruptions, as well as connecting new consumers and producers.
