Distribution Oltenia has been started an extensive process of digitalization and introduction of innovation in the group’s activities even since 2015, being one of the local pioneers of digitalization in Romania, in the energy field. Digitization is primarily aimed at achieving the optimal parameters of operational efficiency and is necessary to cope with the transformations that take place in the energy sector, said Cosmin Ghiță, Director of Digitization and Innovation in Distribuție Oltenia, at the DigitALL 2022 conference organized by Energynomics.

“We have to deal with the transformations that are taking place in energy – transformations induced by decarbonization, decentralization and, of course, digitalization. Of our projects, some are quite advanced and already in operation, and others have started this year. Among them I would mention the advanced management of field teams – here we have implemented a solution and we have equipped our teams with state-of-the-art tablets. Through this, we have improved and increased the efficiency of the teams. We have about 180,000 smart meters already installed to our customers, and the plan goes on. Also for consumers, we have made available on our website the first digital map of our network. We continue this year, as we have started two large projects, financed from European funds, which have as object the advanced management of the network, preparing it for the transition to the smart grid, for the incorporation of new renewable energy sources, for e-mobility and, at the same time, for increasing the efficiency and transparency of the investments we make”, said Cosmin Ghiță.

“At the same time, in addition to very large projects, we are trying to keep up with technology and test the most innovative solutions with development potential. We tested drones in the maintenance activity. We have already scaled the solution and we have such equipment in each county (e.n. where Distribuție Oltenia operates as a distribution company), we have teams already trained to use them. It helps us a lot, especially in hard to reach areas and in very difficult weather conditions”, Cosmin Ghiță also pointed out.

“We also tested intelligent analytics algorithms. The first tests were done to identify the indexes and attempts to steal based on the photos of the counters taken by readers. We tested algorithms including for energy forecasting, and here the results are quite good, we try to scale the solution with the help of European funds. We are very focused on attracting European funds and investing, including with the help of European funds, in the network and in improving the continuity parameters”, added Cosmin Ghiță.

DigitALL 2022 was organized by Energynomics, in partnership with reputed organizations such as CIO Council and BusinessMark, with the support of our partners: ACE – Industrial Software Solutions, Eaton Electric, Nova Power & Gas, Procesio, SAS Romania, Safetech Innovations, Siemens România.
