Romania has sufficient capacity to produce energy from renewable sources, but the market is unbalanced due to price fluctuations, which makes renewable energy inefficient without storage facilities, said Cosmin Drăgoi, General Manager of Finacon Romania, at the “Energy Transition – Bucharest 2025” conference, organized by Energynomics,
“The market equalizer or leveler is BESS, energy storage systems that basically set aside surplus energy and provide it when we need it most.
In the National Integrated Plan for Energy and Climate Change, the government has set a series of targets, such as 17 GW of renewable energy by 2030 and 2 GW of storage systems by 2030. According to Drăgoi, these targets are “a little outdated,” and more plausible figures show higher values.
According to Drăgoi, investors allocate funds to storage projects or photovoltaic and wind power plants when they have predictability.
The first element of predictability is who is making the prediction and how capable they are of making that prediction. Do they have experience in the field, have they been through similar situations before? How many times have they been through similar situations? What knowledge do they have about the market to be able to make that prediction? The second element is the data they use, and the quality of the data determines the quality of the prediction. And the third element is the software or algorithm or tool with which he makes the prediction. And for an investor to assess the predictability of a project, he evaluates all three,” he said.
