Contract on commercial exchange of electricity between Romania and the Republic of Moldova

The contract that will allow the allocation of capacity for commercial electricity exchanges on the interconnection line between Romania and the Republic of Moldova was signed on Thursday and the first electricity transactions between the two countries are estimated for October this year.

“Through the sustained collaboration of the two Transport and System Operators with a view to a joint agreement that will materialize through the allocation of interconnection capacity, there will be a dynamic flow of electricity transactions between the participants in the energy market in Romania and those in Republic of Moldova,” it is mentioned in a press release of Transelectrica, according to Agerpres.

According to the cited source, commercial exchanges of electricity with the Republic of Moldova will begin immediately after the completion of the entire process involving the harmonization of technical details and commercial aspects.

“The successful implementation of the electricity commercialization process on the interconnection between Romania and the Republic of Moldova represents a commitment of support between the two Transport and System Operators and also contributes to the development and smooth functioning of the energy market at the European level,” the statement also states.

On March 16, 2022, the power systems of Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova were successfully synchronized with the European power system.
