Prime Minister Sorin Grindeanu appointed Constantin Gheorghe as president with the rank of Secretary of State of the Competent Authority for Regulating the Offshore Oil Operations at the Black Sea, according to a decision published in the Official Gazette.

Gheorghe was appointed to this position for a five-year mandate. He was until one year and a half ago, according to his own LinkedIn page, director of HSEQ (Health, Safety, Environment and Quality) at Grup Servicii Petroliere (GSP), a company controlled by businessman Gheorghe Comanescu. He later became Comanescu’s councilor and, after his appointment as a government official, gave up this position, according to economica.net.

In addition, Gheorghe was included, in 2014, in the Initiative Group set up by the Romanian Government, to transpose into the national legislation a European directive regarding the safety of the offshore operations.

The authority that will be led by Constantin Gheorghe was established in 2016 by the law regarding the safety of the offshore oil operations. One of the roles of the authority is “to oversee the compliance of operators and owners with the provisions of this law, including inspections, controls, investigations and enforcement measures”.
