Concelex, a company among the top constructors in Romania, was designated the winner of a contract worth 49.8 million euros by Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP), for the construction of technical facilities and administrative buildings within the modernization project of Unit 1 of the Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant, carried out by Nuclearelectrica. The works are scheduled to start in the first quarter of 2026 and will be completed by the end of 2027.

As part of the Unit 1 refurbishment program, Concelex will deliver a complex package of works on buildings, platforms and infrastructure for KHNP. These include operational and administrative units, logistics areas, a transformer station, site management services, roads and access control facilities. The project also includes fire-fighting water tanks equipped with pumping stations, solutions for the relocation of existing utility networks and cables, groundwater monitoring facilities and the arrangement of internal circuits for personnel, equipment and materials. In parallel, Concelex will implement complete utility networks, security and surveillance systems. These works ensure the safe, efficient and uninterrupted implementation of the retrofit program, respecting the strict operating and safety requirements of a nuclear power plant.
The retrofit of Unit 1 is a key project for Romania’s nuclear energy strategy. Concelex holds certifications issued by the National Commission for the Control of Nuclear Activities (CNCAN) for construction, manufacturing and supply activities in the nuclear field. These attest to compliance with strict safety standards and robust quality management systems, ensuring that work is carried out at the highest levels of safety and reliability.
