The Competition Council is analyzing alleged obstacles that energy operators would put in the way of consumers moving to more attractive suppliers, such as Hidroelectrica, the president of the Competition Council, Bogdan Chirițoiu, said on Monday.

“In energy, there were many investigations that ended either with sanctions on the gas sector, or with the imposition of measures to change behavior in the electricity sector. Now we are looking again at the supposed obstacles that energy operators would puts in the way of moving consumers to more attractive suppliers, so, in essence, blocking the migration of consumers from traditional distribution suppliers to new suppliers, such as Hidroelectrica,” said Chirițoiu, quoted by Agerpres.

Asked about the controls at several companies in the Enel group, on the distribution side, he mentioned that, on energy, they have just ended.

“On energy, we have just finished. We have agreed a series of changes with Electrica and with CEZ, so on the electricity supply side. What are we looking at at Enel? There are still similar suspicions, of blocking the transfer of customers from the traditional company, so a large company, in this case Enel, towards companies that have just appeared in the market, such as Hidroelectrica. In essence, this is what we are looking at, if the transfer of customers from the supplier Enel to others, especially to Hidroelectrica, is intentionally obstructed. For Hidroelectrica there is a great demand from customers to move,” Chirițoiu pointed out.

The report on competition in key sectors for the year 2023 was launched, on Monday, in a conference organized by the Competition Council.
