The Ministries of Energy in Bulgaria and Romania are working on a general framework for joint energy projects, State Secretary in the Bulgarian Ministry of Energy Nikolai Nikolov said on Tuesday in Bucharest, reports BTA.

“We cooperate very well with Romania. In the last six months, we have worked hard with our Romanian colleagues to set up a general framework for projects,” said Nikolai Nikolov, quoted by Agerpres.

The Bulgarian official added that he has confidence in the potential of offshore wind energy projects combined with the potential of the Black Sea.

“We can make the region even more attractive for investors,” said Nikolov.

He appreciated that it is the task of national governments to create a favorable environment for investments.

“Two weeks ago we introduced a law in Bulgaria regarding the development of wind energy. Now the law is in Parliament and we believe it will pass. But we also need to work with public opinion, because we hear voices that it will affect tourism in Bulgaria . People are worried that this will affect tourism potential. Fishermen say that their catches will decrease. NGOs are worried that this will reduce biodiversity in the Black Sea. This is a new area for our region, for Bulgaria and Romania. We have to we are doing our homework,” the state secretary emphasized.

At the end of his intervention, Nikolai Nikolov expressed his hope that the Black Sea can become a regional energy hub.
