Bucharest could benefit from European funds totaling 2.1 billion euro in the next programming period, 2021-2027, and the amounts for the rehabilitation of thermal energy pipelines could be supplemented, said Marcel Boloş, Minister of European funds, according to Agerpres.

“The next programming period is generous for Bucharest. There are European funds proposed for allocation amounting to 2.1 billion euro, of which 1.5 billion from the European Regional Development Fund, with the contribution of the state budget and local budgets, and the difference of 700 million euro, from the Facility for recovery and resilience,” said Boloş.

The Minister specified that there are at least three projects of major importance in implementation at the moment for Bucharest: the rehabilitation of the district heating system, the waste management and the one regarding the sewerage.

“Regarding the district heating project, we are going to conclude the financing contract for the rehabilitation of 100 kilometers of thermal energy transmission network, out of a total of 954 kilometers,” he specified.

The official also said that he proposed the supplementation by 200 million euro, from the Fund for resilience and recovery, for the project of 500 million euro that provides for the rehabilitation and repair of the distribution networks, in order to control the losses.

“It is a project of capital importance for the city of Bucharest. If necessary, we will allocate additional funds to this project. In addition to the 954 kilometers of transmission network, there are 2,953 kilometers of distribution network. Another important project which is being implemented in the current programming period is related to waste management and the incinerator, worth 208 million euro, for which, together with the municipality, we must find the best solution for the location of the incinerator,” added Boloş.

The three projects under implementation, listed by Boloş, amount to one billion euro of European money.
