Romania benefits from solid energy security thanks to the diversified resources it has, but this must transfer into lower energy prices for citizens and the business environment, said Bende Şándor, president of the Industry and Services Committee in the Chamber of Deputies, at the 9th edition of the Energy Strategy Summit, an event organized by Energynomics.

“From the point of view of energy security, Romania is not bad now and won’t be bad in the future. This is all thanks to the people who make decisions. We must always make sure that the price of energy for Romanians is less than in other parts of the European Union. We have energy and crude oil, so the price of energy for Romanians must be less. And the industry must benefit from these facilities in order to be competitive because that’s the only way we can create a livable environment in Romania,” said Bende.

According to Bende, access to sufficient and affordable energy is essential. Also, polluting energy capacities should be replaced with more environmentally friendly ones, but this is quite difficult to achieve.

Nuclear energy will be crucial in the future, and the authorities have already taken the first steps in ensuring the continuity of electricity production in the Cernavoda nuclear power plant. Likewise, the energy obtained from water will be able to compensate for part of the energy capacities that have closed.

Moreover, the authorities are taking steps to facilitate the completion of some hydropower investments that have been started, but still not completed, which accumulate an installed power of 1 GW. What is still missing is an energy strategy.

“The energy mix in Romania is special and the geographical area allows us a lot, and if the government also came up with an energy strategy, it would be exceptional, so that we know how far we can go with each energy source”, he added .

Energy Strategy Summit 2023 was organised by Energynomics with the support of ABB, ASTRASUN Solar, BCR, CEZ Romania, Eaton Electric, Electrica Furnizare, Electro Service RB, Elektra Renewable Support, EnergoBit, Enevo Group, E.ON, Finder, Huawei, MET România Energy, OMV Petrom, OX2 România, Phoenix Contact, Photomate, ProCredit Bank, REI Grup, Renomia Gallagher, Romgaz, Schneider Electric, Signify, Transelectrica, Taw Energy, Volt, WIKA, Wiren, Alexandrion Group, Aqua Carpatica, Klarmedia and Mobexpert.
