Next year, Romania could have more than 100,000 prosumers, meaning users who produce their own energy for consumption, said Zoltan Nagy-Bege, the vice-president of the National Energy Regulatory Authority, on Friday.

“The potential is much greater than what has been achieved so far. Even if this year we doubled the number of prosumers and the installed power, we are still far from the real capacity in this field,” said the ANRE official, according to Agerpres.

He compared our country with Hungary, where there are many more prosumers, and the interest is very high.

“From November 1, Hungary decided not to allow the connection of prosumers, one of the reasons being the damage to the networks. In October, they announced that all requests submitted until November 1 will be approved and connected. In 20 days, 20,000 of applications were filed, which was a shock for them as well. We are talking about Hungary, a country with half the population of Romania. They used to make 10,000 prosumers per month and we are happy that we made 10,000 per year,” Bege pointed out.

According to him, AFM representatives should also help by expediting the file evaluation procedure.

“I think that our potential is much greater than Hungary’s. I would venture to estimate that the year 2023 will bring us a six-digit number, over 100,000 prosumers. It is not impossible,” said the ANRE official.

The biggest problem will be their integration into the network, he added.
