Annual inflation rate reaches 10.71% in April

    The annual inflation rate reached 10.71% in April 2026, with the highest price increases recorded for electricity (+54.18%), rents (+43.78%), diesel (+32.68%), gasoline (+22.42%) and coffee (+21.76%), while services recorded the fastest annual growth, at 13.04%, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics.

    “In April 2026, the annual inflation rate reaches 10.7%. After eight months of growth at values ​​above 9%, in April 2026 the annual inflation reaches the threshold of 10.7%. Thus, in April the annual inflation rate, compared to the same month of the previous year, was 10.71%, with the highest price increases recorded in services, 13.04%. In the same time frame, the prices of non-food goods increased by 12.02%, and those of food goods by 7.39%”, the INS analysis shows, according to Agerpres.

    Among non-food goods, the most significant increases in April continue to be those of the electricity tariff, which increased by 54.18%, after the elimination of the support scheme regarding the capping of electricity prices.

    Other price increases in this category were also recorded for fuels, namely gasoline, by 22.42%, and diesel, by 32.68%. Thermal energy increased in price by 10.7%, books, newspapers, magazines by 10.37%, detergents by 9.45%, tobacco and cigarettes by 7.42%. Last but not least, medicines also increased their prices in April by 4.37%, and hygiene items and cosmetics increased in price by 6.5%. Between April 2026 and April 2025, the price of gas increased by 6.38%.

    In the services category, the highest price increases in April 2026 compared to the same month in 2025 were recorded in rents, which increased by 43.78%, followed by hygiene and cosmetics, by 15.07%, and water, sewerage and sanitation, by 15.05%. Other significant increases in this category, over the course of a year, were recorded in car repair services, by 14.65%, and shoe and clothing manufacturing and repair services, by 14.66%.

    The annual inflation rate increased to 10.71% in April, from 9.87% in March, as services rose by 13.04%, non-food goods by 12.02%, and food goods by 7.39%, according to data published on Wednesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
