AFEER: Prices stabilize after increases in the last quarter

Baseload energy quotations for 2022 recorded on November 8 reached 118 euro/MWh in Germany, 128 euro/MWh in Hungary and Romania, on the EEX market segments and about 130 euro (650 lei) in Romania, on OPCOM-OTC market, said Laurențiu Urluescu, president of AFEER, during the conference “Future of utilities”, organized by Energynomics.

Thus, there is a slight relaxation compared to the average of October, when the price was of 133 euro/ MWh in Germany, 327% more than in October 2020, and of 141 euros, 288% higher in the EEX segment related to Romania and Hungary, while the OPCOM-OTC quotation was 295% higher. The OPCOM-DAM price, on the other hand, was 297% higher in October 2021 than in October 2020, the price increasing to almost 662 lei.

At the same time, the price of oil was 200% higher in October 2021, compared to the same month of the previous year, and EU-ETS certificates became 233% more expensive during that period.

“A situation from Transelectrica yesterday afternoon (n.r. Monday, November 8) shows a consumption of the Romanian System of 7,700 MW, with a balance of imports of 1,700 MW. As I think everyone knows, lately Romania is a net importer of energy,” said Urluescu.

At the same time, the price of gas rose in August 2021, compared to August 2020, on the TTF market in the Netherlands, at quotations for the following winter, by 362%, to 45.65 euro/MWh, on November 8 registering an even higher quotation, of 75 euro. In Romania, in August 2021, compared to the same month last year, the advance was of 277%, at 225 lei/MWh, and on November 8 the price was of 410 lei. The quotation of the average spot price of BRM was of 202 lei/MWh in August 2021, by 346% higher than in August 2020, while oil rose by 155%, to 68 USD/barrel, in the mentioned period, and on 8 November 2021 increased to 82.7 USD/ barrel.

The forward gas market with delivery in Q1, 2022 had a growing dynamic, from 224 lei in August 2021, to 715 lei/MWh in October, followed by a fall during the last month and then a stabilization to about 400 lei/MWh (410 lei on November 8).
