Romania must improve its energy legislation, which must remain stable in order to attract new investments, Adrian Borotea, vice-president of the Romanian Wind Energy Association (RWEA), said on Tuesday.

He emphasized that last year there were at least seven legislative changes in the area of energy, in general and, in particular in the area of renewable energy, according to Agerpres.

“Everyone wants a stable and predictable legislation. Last year, we had at least seven legislative changes in this area of energy in general and, in particular, in the renewable energy. Then investors compare with what is happening in other countries and even in the other continents. Investors are already no longer asking if they invest in energy in Romania or in the European Union or in South America. Some of them are thinking: invest in energy or go into infrastructure or who knows what trade? Then, in order to convince investors and determine them to stay in energy, to stay in Romania, we need to improve the legislation, a little at a time, but let it be predictable, let’s not change it so many times,” said Adrian Borotea, at the online debate “Wind energy, part of Romania’s clean energy mix”, organized by the Intelligent Energy Association.

He stressed that Romania needs more companies specialized in the construction of wind or solar parks, as well as specialists in these fields.

“The companies that are able to build a wind or solar farm from scratch, or from a certain phase, or only for a certain phase are fewer and fewer – and these companies have fewer and fewer specialists because the investments, for a long time, fell – and opportunities in other countries arose, probably with better salaries – and then many of the specialists left, being very difficult for them to return,” added Adrian Borotea.
