YESS Power, the energy storage subsidiary of Turkish group Topkapı Endüstri, has successfully tested and delivered a 30MW/60MWh battery-powered energy storage system for Mey Energy’s 55 MW Novaci solar park in North Macedonia.
The project represents the first large-scale storage system integrated into a solar power plant in North Macedonia and one of the most important hybrid projects in the Western Balkans region. The system allows for the storage of energy produced during periods of surplus and its delivery during times of high demand, contributing to grid stabilization and optimizing the use of renewable generation.
In the context of the accelerated growth of renewable capacity in South-Eastern Europe, the development of an adequate storage infrastructure is becoming essential for managing system imbalances and limiting short-term price fluctuations. Countries that develop renewable generation and storage solutions in parallel can strengthen market stability and improve conditions for both industrial consumers and the overall resilience of the energy system.

We see significant potential for the development of such hybrid projects in South-Eastern Europe, and Romania is among the markets we are actively analyzing for expansion, given the pace of investment in renewable energy and the growing need for long-term flexibility of the energy system,” said Emre Jabban, Business Development Manager at YESS Power.
The Novaci solar power plant, operational since 2023, has an installed capacity of 55 MW, spreads over 57 hectares and generates approximately 85 GWh annually, equivalent to the consumption of about 30,000 households. Located in the vicinity of the REK Bitola power complex, traditionally based on coal-fired power generation, the new storage system supports the region’s transition to a cleaner and more flexible energy mix.
YESS Power provided full engineering, installation, commissioning and after-sales services for the storage segment, in partnership with Cubenergy, one of the leading battery system integrators in China. The collaboration goes beyond this project and represents the basis of a long-term technology partnership, focused on the Turkish and Eastern European markets.

The company estimates that investments in BESS systems will accelerate in the region in the coming years, amid the growth of installed renewable energy capacity and the increased need for flexibility in national grids.
