Transgaz has put up for auction the contract for the construction of the natural gas transport pipeline Prunişor – Orşova – Băile Herculane – Jupa, which will have a length of 180 km, while the funds are to be provided also from the Modernization Fund, announced on Monday the Minister of Energy, Virgil Popescu.

“We are moving forward with the development of the energy infrastructure. A new step has been taken for the construction of the natural gas transport pipeline in the direction of Prunişor – Orşova – Băile Herculane – Jupa. Transgaz has tendered the contract for the construction of the pipeline, which will have a length of 180 km, and the funds will be provided also from the Modernization Fund. In August 2022, we signed the authorization for the construction of the natural gas transport pipeline, which also provides for the supply of electricity, cathodic protection and optical fiber. At the same time, the investment project ‘Pipeline of natural gas transport in the direction of Prunişor – Orşova – Băile Herculane – Jupa’ was declared by the Government to be a project of national importance in the field of natural gas,” the minister wrote on his Facebook page, according to Agerpres.

He emphasized that this is an important project for the Oltenia region, but also “a vital piece” to diversify transport routes to the West and to make Romania an energy hub.

“Through the construction of this pipeline, it is possible to ensure the supply of natural gas to the localities in the area of interest of the objective, namely a number of approximately 15,500 household consumers, 94 public institutions (schools, town halls, dispensaries, cultural homes, medical offices, etc.) and approximately 113 economic agents in Mehedinți County as well as approximately 12,000 household consumers, 136 public institutions (schools, town halls, dispensaries, cultural homes, medical offices, etc.) and approximately 231 economic agents in Caraş Severin County,” the minister said.
