The financing scheme for reactors 3 and 4 will be completed this year with the support of Exim Bank USA, stated the Minister of Energy, Virgil popescu, in a post on Facebook.

Popescu had a meeting on Tuesday with Reta Jo Lewis – President of Exim Bank USA.

“I continued the discussions about the construction of the new reactors at Cernavodă with Reta Jo Lewis – President of the US Exim Bank from the USA. During the meeting, we discussed the support that Romania will receive for reactors 3 and 4,” said Popescu.

“At the same time, the president of Exim Bank reiterated the desire to support strategic investments in the development of the civilian nuclear program in Romania and to ensure financing. The cooperation relationship between Romania and the USA has a very good dynamic and is constantly developing. I am convinced that we will complete the financing stage of reactors 3 and 4 by the end of this year with the support of the US Exim Bank,” concluded the Minister of Energy.

According to Nuclearelectrica, Exim Bank US has shown its interest “to finance Romanian energy projects, including nuclear, with 7 billion dollars”.

Through the implementation of the project of reactors 3 and 4, the contribution of nuclear energy to the total energy production, at the national level, will be of 36%. The estimated value of the project is of 7 billion euro.
