Tenaris Silcotub seamless pipe company will lay off 190 employees in the near future, representing 10% of the staff, as a result of problems in the oil industry and the global crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Due to the significant reduction in demand for tubular products from the oil and gas industry and industrial sectors, as a result of the dramatic decline in global consumption, Tenaris Silcotub is implementing a restructuring program that will reduce the number of employees by 190 people. The unexpected combination of the COVID-19 pandemic and the global economic crisis has led to an extraordinary scenario in which industrial companies now operate,” the company said.

According to the quoted source, the company will apply a restructuring program that will include a collective redundancy process that will affect 190 jobs in all its production units in Romania, respectively the production units in Zalău, Călăraşi and Câmpina.

“In the unprecedented crisis we face, we have a responsibility to remain competitive so that we can maintain our long-term commitments to our people, our customers and the communities we belong to. We have to make difficult but necessary decisions to move forward and continue everything we have developed in the 15 years of Tenaris presence in Romania,” claims the president of Tenaris Silcotub, Mihaela Popescu, according to Agerpres.

The company’s representatives emphasize that the collective redundancy process will be implemented in compliance with the collective agreement and the legislation in force, in the form resulting after consulting trade union representatives. Tenaris Silcotub will communicate redundancy notices to employees whose positions are restructured starting with July 1.

According to official data, the Tenaris group has 1,900 employees in Romania, working in the pipe factory in Zalău, the steelworks in Călăraşi and the pumping rod factory in Câmpina, the service centers in Ploieşti and Cluj-Napoca, the center for collecting scrap metal from Popeşti Leordeni and the commercial offices in Bucharest.
