The degree of filling of Depogaz deposits reached 98.6% on November 2, a month earlier than the European Commission imposed on us, due to some strategies adopted, which concern the efficiency of storage and extraction measures, declared on Monday, the chairman of the Board of Directors of Depogaz Ploiești, Bogdan Stănescu, at a specialized event.

“I am pleased to note that we are all well and will get through the winter, at least declaratively so. In the spring we draw the line and see how many have survived the winter well, but I also agree with these statements and, from the point of view of Depogaz, the gas storage facilities in Romania are at maximum capacity. (…) If in September we had 90% of the storage capacity of the storage facilities full, a month earlier than the European Commission imposed on us, on November 2 we were somewhere at 98.6% gas capacity in the storage facilities. This is due to strategies approached at the level of Depogaz, strategies that concern the efficiency of storage and extraction measures. We have also implemented a SWAP mechanism between storage and extraction, precisely to effectively remove from the storage facilities only the difference between the demand for insertion and that for gas extraction. This also helps us in the activity of becoming more efficient in economic activity. If in 2024, in April, we came out of the winter with 50% of the gas existing in the storage facility, in April “In 2025, we came out with 25% of the gas in the warehouse. Some criticized this measure, we appreciated it both from the point of view of the company’s profit, but also of the activity carried out,” said Stănescu, according to Agerpres.

He also referred to the investment projects that Depogaz is carrying out.

“About investments: we currently have three projects. At the Bilciurești storage facility, we will increase the capacity from 14 million cubic meters/day to 20 million cubic meters/day, an increase in the total storage capacity of 108 million cubic meters per storage cycle. At Ghercești, we are increasing from 600 million cubic meters per cycle to 900 million cubic meters per cycle. This means that we can store and extract from 3 to 5 million cubic meters per day. In Sărmășel, we are going from 900 million cubic meters per cycle to 1550 million cubic meters per cycle, as an increase in capacity. All this, of course, with investments from both our own sources, but especially from external sources attracted and European grants. Thus, at Sărmășel, we are increasing injection, insertion, from 4 million cubic meters to 10 million, and extraction from 4 million to 12 million”, added the chairman of the Depogaz Board of Directors.
