SINEXCEL expands in Eastern Europe with 81 MW in Romania and growing BESS pipeline

    SINEXCEL is rapidly expanding its presence in Eastern Europe, with Romania and Hungary among its key markets, amid growing demand for battery storage and grid stabilization solutions. The company has reached a global portfolio of more than 5,000 projects and has delivered approximately 17 GW on the AC side and 50 GWh in battery capacity, marking significant growth compared to the previous year, when installed capacity stood at around 12 GW, stated Barış Sözener, Senior Business Development Manager Eastern EU at SINEXCEL.

    “We added 5 GW last year alone and are seeing a clear transition from two-hour systems to three-hour systems, reflecting the maturation of the storage market,” said Sözener , at the “Cell to Revenue: Strategy & Investment Outlook” conference, organized by Energynomics with the support of SolarToday Romania, Jinko ESS, Power Konnekt, and Sinexcel.

     

     

    Founded in 2007 and listed since 2017, the company entered the energy storage market as early as 2012 and claims to have been among the first global players to develop modular PCS (power conversion systems). It is currently ranked Tier 1 by BloombergNEF among power inverter manufacturers. Its European expansion is supported by the establishment of a regional entity in Düsseldorf, Germany, as well as a network of its own service centers in Germany, Hungary and Netherlands, while in Romania the company operates through local partners.

    Locally, SINEXCEL already has ongoing projects exceeding 81 MW on the AC side and approximately 260 MWh on the DC side, with further expansion planned. Hungary remains another strategic market with around 134 MW projects, while in Germany the company has surpassed 1 GW.

    At the European level, market outlooks continue to be dominated by utility-scale projects, which could reach a value of around 10 billion euros by 2030. The dominant business models remain wholesale energy arbitrage, followed by ancillary services and capacity markets.

    SINEXCEL focuses its strategy exclusively on power conversion systems (PCS) and power quality, avoiding the photovoltaic inverter segment and instead prioritizing the development of advanced PCS technologies and tailored solutions for utility-scale, C&I and microgrid projects.

    A key competitive advantage is its in-house battery testing capability which allows the company to optimize system performance and integration. In addition, its new products use silicon carbide technology, offering above-industry-average efficiency, fast response times, and enhanced grid adaptability, including grid-forming capabilities.

    “The market is clearly moving toward more complex projects where grid-forming and grid stability are essential, and we are ready with new products to meet these requirements,” Sözener added.
