Romania’s energy storage market is witnessing a significant transformation, as reflected in Sermatec’s recent signing of a 10MW/40MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in Olt county. This development signifies a strategic leap forward, aligning with the broader trends in Europe’s energy transition where BESS has evolved from a supplementary technology to a fundamental infrastructure component.
As renewable energy generation expands in Romania, the demand for flexibility and balancing solutions is surging, creating an ideal environment for large-scale BESS deployments. Sermatec’s project, unveiled at Intersolar Europe 2026, exemplifies the fruitful culmination of extensive technical discussions and commercial collaborations, leading to substantial investments that bolster the region’s energy transition.
The project is owned by SERVICE IT SOLUTION DEVELOPMENT SRL, represented by Anastasia Muntean as managing director. “We are delighted to invest in the BESS system and believe this segment represents an extremely profitable business. We look forward to collaborating with Sermatec, a trusted partner with whom we hope to enter into a long-term agreement,” said Anastasia Muntean.
Bogdan Cumpănașu, Country Manager for Romania and the Republic of Moldova, emphasized the importance of this agreement, stating, “This agreement represents an important milestone not only for our company, but also for the Romanian energy storage market.” He noted that the project is just the beginning of a series of future collaborations aimed at enhancing the local energy landscape.

Sermatec focuses on developing investment solutions that prioritize measurable financial indicators such as payback period and return on investment (ROI). With a commercial pipeline nearing 1 GWh across Europe, Sermatec is establishing a robust presence in multiple strategic markets, including a notable achievement of a 100MW / 400MWh energy storage project in Bulgaria. The company’s capacity to navigate various regulatory environments is further demonstrated by its ongoing projects in Poland (180MWh), in Germany (7.5MW/15MWh), and in Ukraine (100MWh), indicating a versatile and adaptive operational model within the energy storage domain.
