Rompetrol Rafinare has completed a new stage in the program of restoration and modernization of the tank park in the Petromidia refinery. The works consisted of the restoration of four tanks that store petroleum products, and two other strategic tanks are currently being modernized.

“Through this extensive program, we ensure that the storage infrastructure complies with the highest standards of safety, efficiency and environmental protection. It is a strategic investment that supports the efforts of the operational side, by ensuring flexibility in the assumed production plans. At the end of the program, we estimate that we will also be able to increase the storage capacity for finished products and components by 20%,” said Sorin Graure, General Manager of Rompetrol Rafinare.

One of the rehabilitated tanks has a capacity of 10,000 cubic meters and will store a component necessary in the process of obtaining diesel fuels. It underwent major repairs at the base of the tank, the anti-corrosion layer was restored, the complementary equipment was replaced and rehabilitated, and the cooling and extinguishing systems were modernized.

Also, the rehabilitation works of three tanks storing gasoline, with capacities ranging from 3,000 cubic meters to 10,000 cubic meters, were completed. Essential repair works were carried out, changing the seals of the internal floating covers, restoring the anti-corrosion protection and ensuring operational compliance.

The program of rehabilitation of storage capacities continues with the reconstruction works of a vacuum distillate tank. The old structure was demolished, and in its place the reconstruction of a new tank began, with a capacity increased by 20%. At the same time, the rehabilitation of one of the 8 crude oil tanks, with a capacity of 56,000 cubic meters, is also in the early stages of the works.

The works are part of the general program to modernize the tank farms (Petromidia and Vega). Rompetrol Rafinare has made, from 2007 to the present, total investments of over 40 million dollars in the storage capacities of the two refineries, which involved the rehabilitation and modernization of almost 60 tanks. These works have also increased the storage capacity by 20% in the two refineries.
