Adrian Volintiru, the general manager of Romgaz, said on Tuesday that the company is considering the possibility of taking over 15-20% of the Neptun Deep project, after the company was contacted by Exxon representatives, Agerpres reports.

Volintiru, the general manager of SNGN Romgaz SA said: “We were contacted yesterday by an email by the consultant advising Exxon on its exit. We were informed that an exit process is underway and that, if we are interested, they invite us to the discussion table. We will hold discussions in the next period, together with OMV representatives.”

He mentions that Romgaz was interested in this transaction, but does not know when the first round of negotiations will take place. Taking over the Neptune Deep project does not mean giving up on projects where the company is already engaged, such as the Trident project in the Black Sea, the launch of the Iernut and Mintia power plants and taking over a stake in the LNG terminal in Greece, writes Bursa.

On Friday, Virgil Popescu, Minister of Economy, Energy and Business Environment, said that Romgaz should consider the opportunity to take over ExxonMobil’s participation in the Neptun project in the Black Sea.
