Romanians bought twice as many electric and hybrid cars

Romanians bought in the first eight months of the year 571 hybrid and electric cars, twice the volume of the same period of 2015, show statistics of Car Producers and Importers Association (APIA), consulted by Agerpres.

Thus, during January-August, sales of green cars totaled the equivalent of 0.8% of all new cars sold nationwide, an increase from 0.4% compared with the data recorded in the first 8 months of last year.

Since the beginning of the year until August 31 were sold 571 electric cars and hybrids, up 109.2% over the period January to August 2015, when there were 271 units sold of this category.

APIA statistics show that only in the month of August were 169 green cars sold, up 77.9% compared to the previous month, when there were sold just 95 units.

Among the brands sold from January to August, the first place is occupied still by Toyota with 391 units (+ 118.4% over the first 8 months of 2015), followed by Lexus (105 units, + 238.7%), BMW (23 units versus models sold during January-august 2015) and Land Rover (11 units, -26.7%).

APIA data show that throughout 2015, the number of electric and hybrid cars sold in Romania was of 495 units, more than double (110%) compared to 2014, when 236 units were sold.
