The average price of fuels and lubricants for personal transport in the European Union increased by 13.7% in June 2026 compared to June 2025, Romania being among the member countries with the highest annual price increases, according to data published on Wednesday by Eurostat.

According to the European Statistical Office, the price of fuels and lubricants for personal transport increased in all EU member countries, but these are still lower increases than in May, when the average price in the EU registered a jump of 20.7% and four member countries registered increases of over 30%, according to Agerpres.

In June 2026 compared to June 2025, the highest price increases for fuels and lubricants for personal transport were recorded in Bulgaria (26%), Lithuania (23.5%) and Romania (23.1%). On the other hand, the lowest price increases were recorded in Hungary (2.3%) and Poland (5.8%).

On a month-on-month basis, EU consumers benefited, on average, from a 6.4% decrease in diesel prices and a 4.2% decrease in petrol prices in June 2026 compared to May 2026.

According to Eurostat, diesel prices decreased in all EU countries in June 2026 compared to the previous month. The largest decreases were in the Czech Republic (minus 11.3%), Poland (minus 9.7%) and Bulgaria (minus 9.4%), and the smallest were in Hungary (minus 0.6%), Italy (minus 1.4%) and Slovenia (minus 1.6%).

Regarding gasoline prices, Cyprus (0.7%) and Italy (0.5%) were the only EU countries that recorded increases in June, compared to May. The rest of the countries recorded price decreases, the largest being in Sweden (minus 7.8%), Belgium (minus 7.0%) and Poland (minus 6.6%).

In Romania, according to Eurostat, diesel and gasoline prices decreased by almost 4% in June 2026, compared to May 2026.
