Rețele Electrice România, part of the PPC group in Romania, recently completed the modernization works of the electricity distribution infrastructure on several streets in District 1, Bucharest, following an investment worth over 18 million lei. The project was carried out with its own funds and improves the quality of service for approximately 2,300 customers.
The interventions took place over a period of two years and targeted the infrastructure in the area of Bd. Ion Mihalache, Șoseaua Nicolae Titulescu, Doctor Felix, str. Hagi Moscu Maria and str. Scarlatescu. The works included the modernization of 10 transformer stations, by replacing medium-voltage cells, the modernization of low-voltage switchboards and the integration of remote control equipment – an important step towards the digitalization of the network. In addition, 15.2 km of underground medium voltage power lines and 19.8 km of underground low voltage power lines were upgraded.
“This project reflects the company’s commitment to the local communities we are part of – communities that, through these upgrades, benefit not only from a better service, but also from an infrastructure adapted to the needs of the future. It is an important step towards a more efficient, smarter and closer to people energy system,” said Mihai Pește, General Manager, Rețele Electrice România.
Through this investment, Rețele Electrice România contributes to strengthening the resilience of the distribution network, ensuring a safer and more stable power supply for the residents of this part of the city. The digitalization of the infrastructure allows for rapid monitoring and intervention on the network, significantly reducing the outage time in the event of incidents and improving the quality of the service provided.
Rețele Electrice România continues its investment plan in 2025 for its area of responsibility, with the objective of building a modern, digitalized electricity distribution network prepared to respond to its consumers with solutions adapted to the new realities of the energy transition. This year, Rețele Electrice România plans investments worth over 730 million lei. Projects will also be launched with funding from the POIM programs and the Modernization Fund in the three areas, Banat, Dobrogea and Muntenia Sud, which will be completed in the period 2026-2029 in the amount of 1.4 billion lei, of which approx. 340 million lei will be borne from its own funds. By the end of 2025, the total number of smart meters installed by Rețele Electrice România will reach approximately 2 million, the largest volume achieved by any electricity distribution operator in Romania.
