The Portuguese company EDP inaugurated yesterday, in the presence of the Minister of Energy, Sebastian Burduja, the 60 MW Albina solar park, near Timișoara.

“After the working visit to the Mintia thermal power plant site, we arrived today in Albina, near Timișoara, to inaugurate one of the largest photovoltaic parks in Romania and the largest in Timiș County. We are thus adding another 60 MW of brand new capacity to Romania’s energy production. If Mintia will start producing energy at the end of the year, Albina is already producing energy — especially today, on a sunny day. Just like Mintia, the investment in Albina is entirely private, and this shows that Romania is attractive for serious projects,” the Minister of Energy said.

“Unfortunately, at the Ministry of Energy we do not have a magic wand to fix the shortcomings of the last decades overnight. We cannot lower or increase prices on the energy market as we want. And we will never promise “free energy” to Romanians, gasoline for 1 leu or other nonsense.

What we can do is attract European money and make it available to investors (state and private companies), through competitive calls, for investments in new energy production capacities, in networks, battery storage, energy efficiency. And to ensure a predictable and fair legislative framework, to increase investor confidence in a Romanian market capable of offering growth prospects.

And that is what we have done in these 2 years at the ministry, during which we have attracted 14 billion euros for investments in the Romanian energy sector, more than ever after 1989, during which we have not closed a single MW of production and we have kept our word with the programs and initiatives legislative measures that we promised. Only in this way will we have secure, fair and clean energy,” Burduja also stated on his official social media page.

“The “Albina” photovoltaic park is being developed by EDP, with modern technology. It will annually provide approximately 67 GWh of green energy – enough for almost 40,000 households. EDP is already a major player in the clean energy market in Romania, with over 570 MW installed from renewable sources and an annual production of over 1,200 GWh. The energy that will be produced by this photovoltaic park is green, but above all it is produced locally and is affordable. Every MWh generated here means less dependence on imports, a lower price in the market and the prospect of attracting even more investors in the Romanian energy sector. I will repeat obsessively: the only way to have lower bills is to complete as many new investments as possible, such as those in Mintia, Albina and hundreds of other places throughout the country.”
