The 8th Renewable & Storage Forum, organized by energypress, will bring together Greece’s energy and investment community in Athens on October 20–21, 2026, against the backdrop of a rapidly expanding renewable energy market and an increasingly important role for energy storage. The two-day conference will take place at the InterContinental Athens and will introduce, for the first time, a dedicated B2B meeting area where participants can schedule one-to-one discussions through an electronic matchmaking platform. Energynomics is proud to be a media partner for the Renewable & Storage Forum this year.

For companies active in Romania and the wider Southeast European energy market, the event offers a window into a neighboring market whose development challenges increasingly resemble those emerging elsewhere in the region: large renewable pipelines, growing pressure on grid access, increasing demand for flexibility and storage, and consolidation among developers and investors. Greece currently has around 18.5 GW of operating renewable capacity, including approximately 12 GW of solar and 6 GW of wind. According to the organizers, installed renewable capacity could reach around 24.5 GW by the end of 2026 as new projects, predominantly photovoltaic, enter operation.

The development pipeline is considerably larger. Projects representing around 15 GW have already secured connection terms, while another 50 GW of fully licensed capacity is waiting for connection terms. Offshore wind is emerging as another component of the market, with the current development portfolio targeting approximately 1.9 GW by the middle of the next decade. Alongside utility-scale projects, energypress points to growing activity in self-generation and self-consumption, as well as continued investor interest in wind, biomethane and, especially, batteries and other energy-storage solutions.

A market moving from capacity expansion to integration

These figures also illustrate why Greece is becoming relevant beyond the simple addition of renewable generation. A market with tens of gigawatts of projects competing for grid access increasingly requires storage, portfolio optimization, power-market expertise, financing structures and commercial arrangements capable of supporting assets exposed to congestion and changing electricity-price patterns.

The organizers identify an expanding services market across the entire value chain, including project development and maturation, consultancy, financial documentation, bilateral agreements, certification, portfolio management and representation, and renewable and storage asset management. At the same time, transactions remain active, with investment portfolios coming to market and larger groups acquiring small and medium-sized companies as consolidation progresses.

The Renewable & Storage Forum has developed alongside this market. Energypress describes the conference as an annual meeting point for Greece’s business and investment community, regulators, system operators, political decision-makers, academics and energy specialists, with participation extending to the wider Southeast European region. The scale of the previous edition offers an indication of its reach: 95 speakers contributed to roughly 20 hours of conference programming, while 625 delegates attended in person. The online Greek-language broadcast attracted 28,161 unique viewers across the Energypress website, the Istros platform and social-media channels.

A B2B platform for companies looking toward the Greek market

For renewable developers, EPC contractors, storage technology providers, engineering companies, financial advisers, aggregators and asset managers from Romania, the Athens forum can serve as a practical market-entry and partnership platform. The strongest opportunities are likely to emerge where Greece’s project pipeline encounters implementation bottlenecks: grid integration, battery deployment, financing and bankability, corporate PPAs, project optimization and operational management. Companies with experience acquired in Romania’s own renewable and storage expansion can use the conference to identify local developers, investors or service partners seeking complementary capabilities.

The new B2B meeting zone makes that proposition more concrete. Rather than relying exclusively on conventional conference networking, participants will be able to arrange individual meetings in advance. For companies assessing Greece or Southeast Europe as their next market, the practical next step is therefore to define the capabilities they want to bring to the market, identify potential counterparties and use the forum to test partnership opportunities directly with developers, investors and service providers.

Athens as a meeting point for Southeast Europe’s energy transition

Registration for the October 20–21 event is already open and will close when the venue reaches capacity. For the Energynomics community, the Renewable & Storage Forum 2026 is worth following not only as a Greek industry gathering, but as an opportunity to compare renewable and storage development across neighboring markets and to build relationships that can support cross-border investment, contracting and technology partnerships in Southeast Europe. Companies considering participation should use the months ahead to map relevant Greek projects and potential partners so that the Athens meetings become the beginning of concrete commercial discussions rather than simply another industry conference.
