The ESG requirements created, for the first time, a link between the objectives of private companies and the authorities, and thus could create the conditions for better communication between the two parties, said Răzvan Copoiu, CEO of Signify SEE Europe, at the 9th edition of the Energy Strategy Summit, an event organized by Energynomics.

“ESG is the new black. You have to protect the planet while also making a profit, this is a performance indicator that can be tracked by both private companies and the government side. We notice that it is like a letter of the law that will apply everywhere and I hope it will be the crucible that will bring better communication”, said Copoiu.

The company, which in 2022 reported sales of 7.5 billion euros globally, has approximately 35,000 employees and a presence in more than 70 countries, and operates in the smart and ecological lighting sector.

According to Copoiu, the company’s customers can obtain a decrease in the lighting bill by up to 80%. Moreover, the invoice value is reduced by 50% just by switching from lighting with classic bulbs to LED ones.

“The greenest energy and the best for the planet is the one that is not consumed. The LED gives us the possibility to control consumption. Always when switching from a classic lighting fixture to an automatic LED, 50% of the bill is reduced. When you get to the lighting control part, you get an 80% reduction in the invoice value,” added Copoiu.

He specified that, especially during the pandemic, the end consumer became more and more interested in smart bulbs, and then the company recorded “some fantastic volume increases”. In contrast, industrial or corporate customers are more interested in energy efficiency and reducing electricity consumption.

At the same time, Copoiu drew attention to the fact that the level of myopia in schools is increasing due to the use of low-quality lighting fixtures.
