Digitalization and new technologies are fundamentally changing the way energy infrastructures are designed and operated, explained Radu Tărău, Executive Director of EnergoBit Control Systems, during the conference “Energy Transition Cluj-Napoca 2025”, organized by Energynomics together with the Romanian-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry – AHK Romania.

“We are already moving into 3D design and using digital twins for substations and power lines,” he said, stressing that digitization is not just about acquiring software, but also about continuous training of teams and integrating new skills. In his view, these solutions will become indispensable in an industry managing increasingly complex and interconnected networks.

In parallel, EnergoBit is involved in major infrastructure projects considered essential for Romania’s energy security. “Mintia and Iepurești (400 kV) are critical investments, without which the risk of blackout would be real,” warned Tărău. From the company’s perspective, energy efficiency and energy security are inextricably linked, especially in an unstable geopolitical context.

Another sensitive point to which he drew attention is the integration of prosumers. He referred to installations carried out by unauthorized companies, with non-approved equipment and without quality standards. Tărău insisted that prosumers should not be limited, but supported to become active network users, able to manage their production and consumption through storage and monitoring solutions.

The quality of energy projects remains closely linked to human resources and education. “The problem of manpower is not only in private companies, but also in the public administrations that have to receive these works,” Radu Tărău emphasized. He called for closer collaboration between companies and academia so that the university curriculum reflects the realities of the market and prepares specialists for new technologies. In addition, he suggested that interest in the energy sector should be stimulated as early as at school, to ensure a solid base of professionals for the future.
