ProCredit Bank Romania has launched a CO₂ Emissions Calculator to help micro-enterprises and small and medium-sized enterprises quantify and better understand their carbon emissions. This project reflects the broader commitment of the ProCredit Group to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, with the active involvement of clients at the core of its Climate Action Strategy.
The CO₂ Emissions Calculator is the first step in this process, as it enables SMEs to overcome the main obstacle: lack of data. Through a simple model, the tool helps SMEs quantify their emissions and understand where these emissions come from. Calculations are available for eight economic sectors, including agriculture, manufacturing, trade, food industry, transport, and construction, among others. To ensure it operates on a sound scientific basis, the calculator is built on the GHG Protocol methodology and the guidelines of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

“SMEs are the backbone of our economy and have significant potential to drive climate action. By adopting low-carbon practices, they can reduce operating costs and improve their resilience. With the CO₂ Emissions Calculator, we are giving them the tools to future-proof their operations, lower their costs, and make a meaningful contribution to climate goals,” said Alexandra Floricică-Udriștioiu, Head of Sustainable Development, ProCredit Bank.
The ProCredit Group demonstrates a strong commitment to sustainability, aiming for net-zero emissions by 2050 through a comprehensive Climate Action Strategy aligned with the Paris Agreement. The Group’s Climate Transition Plan outlines specific measures designed to generate a positive environmental impact across all operations and client interactions.
In support of this objective, ProCredit has established ambitious near-term climate targets, officially validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). By 2030, the Group aims to reduce Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 42%, using 2022 as the base year, and is proactively engaging with SME clients – especially in the agriculture and manufacturing sectors – to encourage the decarbonisation of their operations.
These initiatives reinforce ProCredit Bank’s position as a trusted long-term partner for clients on their decarbonisation journey and highlight its leadership role in promoting sustainable development in the markets where it operates.
In this context, the CO₂ Emissions Calculator is a valuable tool for SMEs, offering useful insights. It enables companies to gain an advantage in their relationship with partners by responding quickly to ESG requirements, reduce costs – not just emissions – and benchmark themselves against peers, making it easier to identify areas for improvement and develop effective decarbonisation strategies. ProCredit Bank supports clients through advisory services and provides financing for renewable energy projects and various energy efficiency measures, including the modernisation of machinery, lighting, heating or cooling systems, and vehicle fleets.
