For the first time in a long time, we have real reasons to be optimistic that Romania will successfully close the PNRR even if there is still a lot of work to do, says the Minister of Investments and European Projects, Dragoș Pîslaru.
The Economic and Financial Committee of the European Union gave a favorable opinion on Friday on Payment Request No. 4 of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), worth 2.62 billion euros, with all related milestones and targets being positively assessed, without suspensions or financial corrections.
“Bravo, Romania! The Economic and Financial Committee of the European Union has given a favorable opinion on Payment Request No. 4 of the PNRR, worth 2.62 billion euros! All milestones and targets have been positively assessed. No suspensions. No corrections. No blocked money. The money will now enter Romania’s account. It is the first PNRR payment request worked on exclusively by the Government led by Ilie Bolojan and it brings excellent news for our country. Just a few months ago, many were talking about delays, risks and money that could be lost. Today, Romania exceeds the 60% absorption threshold of the PNRR and is approaching 13 billion euros attracted for investments and reforms. The credit for this result belongs to many people and institutions that worked so that the reforms and investments undertaken were carried out”, Dragoș Pîslaru wrote on Facebook.
He specified that the final deadline for implementing reforms and investments is August 31, 2026.
“That is why, in recent weeks, I have been working intensively in Brussels together with representatives of the European Commission to finalize the latest revision of the PNRR. My objective is to save as many investments as possible, maximize the absorption of European funds and ensure that Romania fully uses this historic development opportunity. We are not discussing reducing the ambition of the Plan. We are discussing realism, responsibility and the ability to complete projects that can be delivered by the deadline”, the minister added.
According to him, every euro attracted through the PNRR means investments in infrastructure, hospitals, schools, digitalization, energy and better public services.
“Each reform implemented means a more efficient state and a more competitive economy. Obviously, we still have a lot of work to do, but for the first time in a long time, we have real reasons to be optimistic that Romania will successfully close the PNRR”, Pîslaru also wrote.
