Investors and entrepreneurs in Romania suffer from a lack of coordination and there is no need for a new strategy, “we just need to follow trends and resources and coordinate better”, said Cristian Pîrvulescu, CEO Enevo Group, at the Energy Strategy Summit 2022, an event organized by Energynomics.

“They talk about a lack of organization and that we need a strategy, etc. I think we are living in a unique moment – I don’t think we need a strategy anymore. The strategy is done and we should just stay in trends. If we look at the European strategies, I don’t think we should be original anymore, but just look there at trends and resources. There are not many trends – the EU tells us so: two major challenges for which billions of euros are prepared for the coming years: accelerating the energy transition and diversifying energy resources,” he said.

“Diversification of energy resources involves 300 billion euros divided between PV and wind, 86 billion euros – that will be the investments for the next 5-6 years; energy efficiency – 56 billion euros, renewable hydrogen – 27 billion euros, power grid & storage – 39 billion euros, biomethane – 37 billion euros. This is the strategy that we as EPC contractors, engineers, financiers and consultants should pursue,” he said.

At the same time, speeding up the energy transition does not require complicated strategies.

“We have the experience of the wave 10 years ago, things are very simple! On acceleration, we have some very clear points. First of all the simplification of permitting (ATR), and at EU level we are talking about those go-to areas, so let’s simplify the chaos a bit and build those areas where we have renewable potential and we have the possibility to connect to the grid, mapping these areas and special regulations to facilitate fast-forward permitting, facilitating PPAs – which we have been talking about for 10 years – it is not a request from Romania, it is a tool used in project financing since the 1970s. Then we need sufficient human resources and skills. Finally, improving coordination. This is the only thing that we, together, must do: improve the coordination of these projects to avoid cannibalization and chaos. Chaos spoils things from the perspective of both investors and entrepreneurs,” he added.
