Romania’s energy sector is under immense pressure as the green energy transition accelerates and consumers demand more transparency and higher-quality electricity, according to Paul Negrea, Director of the Corporate Affairs Department, DEER.

“Above all the challenges, the green energy transition puts amazing pressure on our infrastructure and on consumers. People want more transparency and higher quality in the energy we deliver. Distributing electricity in Romania is a daily challenge. It’s not easy because we must invest more and more each year”, Negrea said, at the opening of the 13th edition of Spring Cocktail, an event organized by Energynomics.

He emphasized that DEER is increasing its development budget to make infrastructure more flexible and to facilitate connections between producers and consumers. However, the sector also faces a critical human resources challenge.

“We need skilled people, and it’s not easy to find them. We also have to invest smartly because speed is not always the solution. Rapid moves can create vulnerabilities and problems”, he added.

Looking ahead, Negrea stressed the importance of foresight and strategic planning. DEER’s next challenge is to predict and anticipate regulatory and market shifts, rather than simply react to them.

“We now have a choice: either follow the change or lead it. The right way is to lead the change, and I believe the leaders and decision-makers must do exactly that”, he concluded.
