Romania holds great potential for solar panel installations, but Parapet GmbH is exploring opportunities beyond just agricultural lands, aiming to build on challenging terrains or floating solar panels, said Paul Moldovan, CEO of Parapet GmbH.

“We are not only seeking out flat fields for solar panel power plants but also considering difficult terrain. Our goal is to utilize unused soil as much as possible without encroaching on agricultural land, and we are also exploring the option of floating panels,” he stated, at the round table “Regional Approach Athens – Cooperation”, organized by Energynomics.

The company has solar power projects in Chile, Japan, South Asia, and Australia, with installations already completed on former stone quarries or landfills.

In Europe, Parapet has participated in the construction of 1 GW of renewable energy generation units using solar panels. While the company primarily operates in Germany, approximately 20% of its power plants are located in Romania.

“Currently, we see the Romanian market as highly promising for these hundred-megawatt projects. However, not all of them will be built. We have permits for 39 GW, but Romania’s daily power consumption is only 9 GW. So, it’s not worth it if you can’t sell it,” Moldovan stated.

The working table “Regional Approach Athens – Cooperation” was organized by Energynomics with the support of our partners: Elektra Renewable Support, Kawasaki Gas Turbine Europe GmbH, Parapet GmbH, TUV Nord, WALDEVAR Energy.
