We continue to present the 2018 nominations for the energynomics.ro Awards, with the Outstanding Results category. Only one of the projects below will be rewarded during the Gala from December 5th, but every company and everyone involved in these projects deserve our respect and the widest promotion. We thank all the companies and personalities involved in this effort to draw the image of the Romanian energy industry in 2018 through its achievements!

CE Oltenia positions among the profitable companies

Through an efficient management tailored to market needs, CE Oltenia is among the profitable companies after three years of losses.

The financial results of the CE Oltenia followed, from 2017, a strong upward direction, registering an increase from -140 million lei to +280 million lei. The financial results are due to the increase in energy sales, turnover over 40% higher than in 2016, as well as the decrease in production costs as a result of implementing the management decisions. All this was achieved as the budgeted investment program was observed, all debts to the consolidated state budget were paid, all payments to the financing banks and suppliers were made in time, the acquisition of CO2 certificates was also observed.

CEZ Romania – Impact Report

The report on the commitments undertaken by the CEZ Group in Romania more than a decade ago includes an analysis of the footprint left by the investments and activities that CEZ companies have deployed with impact on the Romanian economy and society in 12 years of activity.

In the analysis conducted with the support of Deloitte consultants, the first of its kind in the Romanian electricity sector, multiplication factors in the real economy were calculated, be it the added value generated, the welfare of the households, the jobs involved or the reduction in consumption of exhaustible natural resources. The results can be considered as reference in both the economic and energy fields, expressed in the impact on society.

Electrica Group – Record investment program

Both in 2017 and 2018, the Electrica Group carried out the most ambitious investment plans in the industry, allocating record amounts for the rehabilitation and upgrading of the infrastructure through its the three distribution operators in the portfolio. In 2018, the investment plan focused on three main pillars – rehabilitation and upgrading of distribution networks, improving energy efficiency and increasing operational efficiency.

The value of the investment plan for 2017 was 736 million lei, and for 2018 it is 900 million lei worth. The structure of the investment plan also targets the rehabilitation and modernization of the distribution networks to improve the quality of the service (40% of the budgeted investments), the improvement of the energy efficiency and the reduction of the losses (40%), as well as the increase of the operational efficiency.

Enel – the market leader in electricity supply

Enel Energie and Enel Energie Muntenia – the two supply companies owned by the Enel Group in Romania – have become the largest electricity suppliers in the country by the amount of energy supplied.

The completion of the price liberalization process took place late last year, but Enel’s efforts to attract customers to the competitive market began as early as two years ago. The sustained commercial efforts made Enel Energie and Enel Energie Muntenia to increase their portfolio to 3 million customers and to become leaders in terms of volumes provided:

  • Cumulative market share of 21.07% at the end of August 2018
  • Cumulative market share of 19.57% on the competitive electricity supply market

In July, the two companies announced they reached a total combined of 1 million household customers on the competitive market, by far the largest portfolio on this market owned by a Romanian supplier.

Hidroelectrica – record profitability

The outstanding financial results obtained by Hidroelectrica in 2017 are supported by the increased profitability in 2018. In 2017, the turnover of 3.25 billion lei and 1.6 billion lei net profit, achieved under an EBITDA of 69%, were historical financial results for the company.

The 2018 results show that the company obtained more than 1.9 billion RON profit at 9 months, with the prospect of exceeding 2 billion lei by the end of the year.

NIS Petrol – The largest O&G exploration campaign deployed on onshore perimeters won in Round X

NIS Petrol has managed to progress steadily in meeting the exploration obligations provided for in the 10th Round of Concession Agreements, despite numerous challenges that have been encountered in operations, creating a model of good practice and opportunities for the other companies in the field.

The onshore oil exploration campaign carried out by NIS Petrol in Timis and Bihor counties is the largest initiative of this kind, carried out in oil perimeters awarded within the Xth Round. Developments in this project place NIS Petrol among a small group of concession companies that have been able to produce quantifiable results in this area of activity. From an operational point of view, the drilling of 3 exploration wells, the acquisition of 3D seismic data on an area of 680 square kilometers and 2D seismic data on a 200-kilometer linear distance were achieved.

Ringhel – Record volumes of electricity managed through a software platform

Ringhel Team is the first Romanian company to develop an integrated system for the Romanian energy and natural gas markets. With its systems, it manages more than 45% of Romania’s electricity, and Ringhel systems are accessed by more than 300,000 users.

By means of Ringhel systems energy and gas utilities worth over 3 billion euros have been billed. Over the past year, more than 22 TWh of electricity was managed through the Ringhel suite of software applications. In 2018, Ringhel has developed its portfolio of clients with important names in the field, and expanded its operations on the Serbian market.
