The Municipality of Oradea inaugurated the project “High-efficiency cogeneration production unit to replace the existing block 1”, a strategic investment aimed at modernizing the centralized thermal energy supply system.

The inauguration was marked by a press conference attended by Florin Birta, the mayor of Oradea, Cseke Attila, the Minister of Development, Public Works and Administration, Călin Ungur, the director of Oradea District Heating, Marius Moș, the director of DMPFI, as well as Ionel Stolnicu, the representative of the company LOIAL IMPEX SRL, the leader of the association that carried out the project, according to TransilvaniaBusiness.

Mayor Florin Birta emphasized the integrated nature of the district heating system in Oradea, showing that the municipality manages both the production, transport and distribution of thermal energy, a situation rarely encountered at national level.

“We have a well-established integrated district heating system, in which we have invested approximately 250 million euro so far, and with the projects in preparation we will exceed 350 million euro”, said the mayor.

He highlighted the importance of the inaugurated investment, worth approximately 47 million euros, financed mainly through the “District Heating” Program, emphasizing that the projects were obtained through competition and solid documentation. At the same time, the mayor showed that, with the completion of this investment, the entire energy production component is modernized, and the old CET will enter the decommissioning process.

“We have the lowest production price per gigacalorie in the country and one of the lowest subsidies. At the same time, we have reduced network losses to approximately 22–23% and CO2 emissions from one million tons to approximately 220,000 tons”, stated the mayor of Oradea.

The mayor also emphasized that the new capacities also allow for the production of electricity, with the system being able to reach approximately 70 MWh in maximum operating mode.
