Less than half of Romanians, respectively 40%, are considering the possibility of concluding a contract for the supply of electricity with another company than the current one, said on Tuesday Remus Ştefureac, director of INSCOP, at the launch of the third edition of the Energy Security Barometer, a study based on a survey conducted by INSCOP Research in partnership with the think tank Strategic Thinking Group.

“About 40% of respondents are considering switching their electricity provider. I think that’s a significant percentage and, in the context of recent public debate, this means a better connection to tariff information. Also, 36% of the respondents indicate the intention to change their gas supplier,” said Ştefureac.

Most of the Romanians who have these intentions have higher education, live in urban areas, in the most developed areas, such as Bucharest or the West region, and represent an active population, aged between 30 and 44, according to Agerpres.

Also, 86% of the survey participants agree that the Black Sea gas should be exploited, and a share of 93.8% of respondents believe that these investments are important and very important for the economic recovery of the country.

Russia will be the main beneficiary if the Black Sea gas is not extracted, according to 45% of respondents.

Romanians still believe in a proportion of 78.3% that the state should maintain control over the energy companies where it is the majority shareholder, the INSCOP survey also shows.

At the same time, 65.9% of Romanians agree that the Romanian state should develop the production of energy from nuclear sources.

The survey was conducted between 4-13 May 2021, on a sample of 1,056 people and has an error rate of plus/ minus 3%.
