OMV and Austria Wirtschaftsservice have signed a financing agreement that will secure up to EUR 123 million in production financing for the planned green hydrogen plant in Bruck an der Leitha (Lower Austria). The project was previously positively assessed and recommended for financing by the European Hydrogen Bank (EHB). This landmark project will make a significant contribution to Austria’s hydrogen strategy and OMV’s 2030 Strategy.
“The positive assessment by the European Hydrogen Bank and the resulting financing from the Austrian state for our green hydrogen plant send a strong signal for the future of sustainable energy supply and for Austria as a location. With our project, we are setting a milestone for the energy transition in Europe and showing how OMV combines innovation and responsibility,” says Alfred Stern, Chairman of the Executive Board and CEO of OMV.
OMV will invest around 400-600 million euros in Bruck an der Leitha. The 140 MW plant is scheduled to come on stream at the end of 2027 and will then be one of the five largest in Europe. At the plant, OMV will produce up to 23,000 tons of green hydrogen annually using renewable energy from wind, solar and hydropower, which will result in savings of up to 150,000 tons of carbon emissions per year.
In November 2025, OMV and Masdar, a leading global clean energy company, signed an agreement to establish a joint venture (JV). The planned joint venture covers the financing, construction and operation of the 140 MW electrolysis plant for the generation of green hydrogen in Bruck an der Leitha. The joint venture is expected to be completed in early 2026, subject to the completion of final documents, shareholder agreement and regulatory approval.
