The Senate adopted on Monday the bill on integration of hydrogen from renewable and low-carbon sources in industry and transport sectors.
“This legislative proposal aims to update and complete the regulatory framework on the integration of hydrogen from renewable sources in the transport and industry sectors, in order to ensure a coherent implementation of the obligations provided for by national and European Union legislation, as well as the development of a functional framework for the production, use and monitoring of hydrogen from renewable sources,” the joint report of the specialized committees states, according to Agerpres.
“We had it in debate in the last session, it had a negative report from the Economic Committee and the Energy Committee, and in the meantime we managed to find some amendments that we proposed together with the chairmen of the two committees and which were voted unanimously (…) so as to balance the coercive part of this initiative. (…) As a result, the version proposed now with accepted amendments is a much better version than the initial one that we sent back to the committees at the end of the parliamentary session. The PSD parliamentary group will vote on this initiative taking into account that it is also a milestone in the PNRR, it is about over a billion euros together with the hydrogen strategy”, said the social-democratic senator Radu Oprea.
In turn, the USR senator Sorin Sipoş emphasized that climate change is already a reality, and reducing emissions is no longer a discussion only about the environment, but becomes one about the economy and about how competitive Romania will be in 10-15-20 years.
“Renewable hydrogen can be one of the solutions, especially in industry, in large energy-consuming processes. Romania has energy resources and an industrial base that allows us to be part of this market and not just buy technology from others. At the same time, I think it is very important not to turn this law into a mountain of bureaucracy. (…) We want companies to invest in new technologies, we want this reduction in emissions and not to invest in people who will carry a mountain of paper between the private and the state. (…) The Save Romania Union clearly votes for this legislative initiative”, the USR parliamentarian said.
