Nuclearelectrica announces that Unit 2 of CNE Cernavoda was resynchronized to the National Energy System (SEN) on the evening of May 30, 2026.

Unit 2 of CNE Cernavoda automatically disconnected from the grid on the evening of May 4 due to a malfunction in an insulator related to the power evacuation transformer, which required the replacement of the transformer of Unit 2 of CNE Cernavoda with a backup one and, implicitly, a longer shutdown period considering that the electrical transformer replacement works represent a complex activity that involves the isolation, dismantling, relocation of the original transformer, as well as complex testing and calibration of the new transformer, in strict accordance with nuclear industry norms.

During the remedial work and replacement of the transformer with the backup one, the Unit 2 reactor was maintained safely, in a shut-down state, without any impact on nuclear safety, personnel, population and the environment, in strict accordance with the applicable procedures.
