Over two days of intense dialogue, the conference Nordic Solutions for Green Transition gathered in Bucharest more than 200 policymakers, business executives, and innovators from the Nordic countries and Romania to explore practical pathways for decarbonization, energy efficiency, and technological cooperation across Europe.
Financed by the Nordic Council of Ministers and organized jointly by the Royal Danish Embassy, the Embassy of Finland, the Consulate of Iceland, the Embassy of Sweden, and the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Bucharest, with the support of Energynomics, the event marked a milestone in strengthening North-South energy collaboration within the EU and NATO frameworks.
Trust, education, and shared values — the Nordic approach
In her opening remarks, H.E. Hilde Svartdal Lunde, Ambassador of Norway, underlined that sustainability is “not only about technology — it is about trust, cooperation, and shared values.” She described trust as the foundation of Nordic success, enabling countries “to turn sustainability into a competitive advantage.”
H.E. Anna Hällerman, Ambassador of Sweden, placed Romania “at the intersection of Europe’s green transition and geopolitical renewal,” pointing to the country’s strategic role from the Baltic to the Black Sea. She stressed that Nordic cooperation “is not exclusive — we also want to cooperate beyond our region, and Romania is a good example.”
H.E. Leena Liukkonen, Ambassador of Finland, emphasized education and critical thinking as pillars of sustainable cooperation: “These days we all need quite a lot of critical thinking. It is at the heart of how we build resilient and forward-looking societies.”
Romania’s path toward full EU alignment
Representing the Romanian Government, Cristian Bușoi, State Secretary at the Ministry of Energy, announced that “the adoption of the implementing legislation for the RED III Directive is only days away.” He highlighted that Romania’s renewable energy targets are “fully aligned with the European ones” and called energy storage “the next critical step” for ensuring flexibility and security.
Bușoi also reaffirmed Romania’s three strategic priorities at EU level: completing market interconnection in Central-Eastern Europe, recognizing natural gas as a transition fuel, and expanding nuclear energy as a zero-emission source of baseload power.
A bridge between innovation and opportunity
Panels across the two-day agenda showcased Nordic experience in renewables, carbon capture, storage technologies, digitalization, and financing models. Integrated “Pitch Spots” introduced clean-tech innovators ready to enter the Romanian market, as well as Romanian companies interested to work with partners for the Northern part of Europe. A special session dedicated to Youth Engagement connected students and young professionals from Romania and the Nordic region to share recommendations for the next phase of the green transition.
The conference concluded with a shared commitment to transform trust and dialogue into joint projects advancing Europe’s energy resilience. As Ambassador Lunde summarized: “Let us use this opportunity to share knowledge, build new connections, and explore concrete steps towards a greener and more resilient Europe.”
