An amount of more than 10,000 megawatts of new capacity will be connected to the network by the year 2030 – 2031, covering the entire spectrum of technologies, Dan Drăgan, state secretary in the Ministry of Energy, said on Monday.

“Through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan we have assumed almost 7 gigawatts up to the level of 2030. The National Recovery and Resilience Plan will start working in parallel with the contracts for difference that are being developed at this moment – and we anticipate a total capacity, up to the level of 2030 – 2031, of more than 10,000 megawatts of new capacity to be connected to the grid. All these capacities that I have mentioned cover the entire spectrum of technologies, which is important to be able to have an energy that we can rely on in every moment, every minute, to cover the 8,760 hours in which we have to have a continuous, constant supply to the final consumer,” said Dan Drăgan, according to Agerpres.

He specified that the money is in the account of the Ministry of Energy, while the signing of the contract and the start of these investments will follow.

“The money is available, it is ready to be transferred to the beneficiaries, to the companies that will build these capacities. We are already in the signing phase for new high-efficiency cogeneration capacities for urban heat, followed by green hydrogen, and in the immediate period next, the signing of contracts for new production capacities from renewable sources. What is very important to mention is that this Modernization Fund runs until 2030. We want all the measures that we are carrying out within the Ministry of Energy – to anticipate and to be able to transfer these amounts necessary to make the investments in the first period, in the first decade of the allocation period. At the same time, I would also mention the letters of intent that were sent by Eximbank for the financing of new capacities in the nuclear field. A very important thing – there are over $3 billion. I believe it’s the first time in recent times that such significant opportunities are made available to actors in the electricity market,” the state secretary also said.
