The Oltenia Energy Complex leadership (CEO) must present Tuesday, April 19th, to the Committee for the mining activity of the Ministry of Energy, information about the proposed action plan for the transformation of public company into a viable company, transmits the ministry. At the most recent meeting, the managers of CEO presented an incomplete report.

“The leadership of the Ministry of Energy has met today (Sunday – n.r.), in a meeting to analyze the progress  of the Coordination Committee for mining works. During the meeting there were spot on discussions regarding the evolution of the Oltenia Energy Complex, given that, at the meeting of Tuesday, April 12th, the members of the Lignite Working Group, within the Committee, of which the leadership of CEO takes part, presented an incomplete report. The Commission members could not provide complete information on the elements underlying the action plan in the lignite sector and any measures necessary to achieve the development strategy in the future. In this situation, the Ministry of Energy expects the Oltenia Energy Complex to present to the Coordination Committee from Tuesday, April 19th, the items that have not been presented so far, although requested in previous meetings”, reads the Ministry of Energy release.

The Ministry representatives have publicly said that the political appointments to CEO leadership hinder the development and implementation of a development plan for the company. During this period, the power unit is in the process of selecting new Board members.

Restructuring delays, but development plans continue

At CEO, in the next period an upgrading of the No. 5 Group of the Rovinari heating plant will commence, says the Director of the Energy Division, Ionel Ilie. “Regarding the No. 5 Group, we hope to get the approval of the supervisory board next week, and this summer to finish the dismantling and to begin installing new equipment. We want to modernize and to bring it to the level of the other one, in order to have the lowest specific emission”, said Ionel Ilie.

The company currently operates four energy groups, with a maximum output of about 1,300 MW. “The energy market is quite difficult now, but that is specific for the spring period. The Danube will reduce its flow until June, Cernavoda will stop in May and I hope we will start the 5th group in mid-May and the sixth one in early July. Now we work with four groups somewhere between 1,200-1,300 MW maximum power, three groups from Rovinari, 1 from Turceni and 1 from Craiova which is in cogeneration, ie for town heating. From May we will have 2 at Rovinari and 2 at Turceni and I hope we will start Group No. 8 Işalniţa”, added Ionel Ilie, quoted by Agerpres.

Moreover, in May the joint venture Huadian Energy Oltenia S.A. will be registered, headquartered in Rovinari, composed of CEO and the Chinese company Huadian Energy. In this unit will work about 250 employees. The purpose of the joint venture is the building of a 600 MW energy group within 36 months. The CEO representatives claim that, during the implementation of the project, over 4,000 jobs will be created and the lignite consumption requirements of the new unit will secure 3,000 jobs.
