Following the bankruptcy of more and more Russian oil companies and in the current context of the Romanian energy market, characterized by a growing demand for fuel storage and distribution capacities, local companies are consolidating their market position through significant investments in expanding infrastructure.
A notable example is the fuel distributor JT Grup Oil, which expanded its logistics capacity by another 4,000 tons following a total investment of approximately 3 million euros, which involved both the acquisition and modernization of the largest vessel previously used for bunkering operations in the port of Constanta by Gazprom.
“The transformation of this barge into a floating terminal underlines the company’s commitment to expanding its operational capacities and responding to the growing needs of the energy market, while also becoming an international player.
“Already integrated into JT Grup Oil’s operations, the JT Danube Terminal vessel will contribute to the efficiency of oil product transport and distribution services for the western part of the country. Moreover, the acquisition of the floating terminal represents a strategic asset that will strengthen Romania’s energy independence and the expansion of the oil product transport and storage infrastructure in the region,” say company officials.
“This acquisition is not only a success for our company, but also a significant contribution to strengthening Romania’s position as a regional energy hub. JT Grup Oil reaffirms its position on the fuel distribution market in Romania and supports the stability and security of Romania’s energy supply, in a European context marked by changes and new challenges in the energy field. We have demonstrated, once again, to investors and partners that JT Grup Oil has the capacity to adapt quickly to changes in the economic and geopolitical environment, ensuring the continuity and security of energy supply through an advanced logistics infrastructure, capable of meeting the growing needs of the market,” says Bogdan-Florin Aldea, Chairman of the Board of Directors of JT Grup Oil.
“In the current international context, JT Danube Terminal will allow Romania to diversify its sources and supply routes, thus reducing its dependence on external resources. Being in the process of modernization, the floating terminal will benefit from modern sustainability measures, adapted to international environmental and safety requirements, ensuring efficient operation, aligned with environmental standards.”
Currently, JT Grup Oil is in the process of completing the construction works of JT Terminal, the newest private terminal for liquid petroleum products. During 2024, the company made investments of over 19 million lei, the money being allocated to complete the terminal works and purchased 5 new tanker trucks, thus continuing the strategy of expanding operational capacities.
